Things I learned this week

When deer are directly spoken to, some will wag their tails.

Deer loved to be scratched behind their ears and around their antlers.

Alpaca really don't smell very nice.

Baby white tigers are beyond cute :)

The MD State Attny.Gen's office are incredible!

My cousin worked on a movie set recently.

Reading three heavy nonfiction titles in a row pretty much grinds my reading to a halt.

When Mark is working in NY, spectacular events happen. This is the third time in as many months...

I answer work email MUCH more quickly than personal email (Sorry AJ, Ange, Mandy and Erin!)

Mark is obviously stalked by the anti-snow fairy. Honey, deal with it and get over it! You may NEVER see snow again.

That's all for now! More later :)

Belated Sept TBR post

Tangent here....why do Blogger and my cookies hate each other?? I haven't been able to get on here all weekend because they can't find my cookies, which ARE there... Bleh!

Anyway, here's my review of a book in a series.

Title: The Family Trade

Author: Charles Stross

Year published: 2004

Book Description: (Via Amazon)
Reporter Miriam Beckstein, recently fired for exposing a money laundering scheme and threatened by the criminals involved, finds that staring at her mother's antique brooch can move her from contemporary America to a Viking-settled parallel universe, where she discovers her true heritage as a countess among the world-walking, goods-smuggling Clan. Struggling to master the mores and politics of her new family, Miriam discovers trust to be the rarest commodity in which they deal. Earl Roland, her new love, may be too loyal to her uncle, Duke Angbard, while Roland's intended, the Baroness Olga, is much more than a silly heiress waiting to be married off. Miriam schemes to update the Clan's ancient business and make herself invaluable to their interests, before one of the many assassins after her succeeds.

Why did you get this book? I picked it up ages ago, and when rearraging my living room, pulled it from the back of a bookshelf.

Did you enjoy the book? I really enjoyed it a lot! Miriam had me rooting for her from the first pages of the book. I really enjoyed the world-buildin. There were a few small niggles that kept working at me, but overall it was a very solid read.

Was the author new to you and would you read something by this author again? I've seen his books before, but this is the first oneI've purchased. I'll be reading the next books in the series as soon as i can get my hands on them.

Are you keeping it or passing it on? Keeping for now!
