Giving thanks

Today is the first day in over two weeks that we haven't spent with extended family, and it feels a bit TOO quiet! David and Erin flew back to the UK yesterday after spending two weeks in America, and my mother and step-dad went home on Friday. They all had a wonderful time and we enjoyed having them.

Our Las Vegas trip took a couple of surprising twists and turns and lo and behold, we now own a property on the Vegas Strip! I can't wait to start taking advantage of all the plusses this timeshare offers us, most importantly the opportunity to go to Australia every couple of years or so.

Spending time with Dave and Erin was fabulous. I've only met both of them once, and Erin had onlt met Mark a couple of times. To say I was nervous and worried is an understatement, but from the moment we met them in JFK airport to them leaving yesterday, it was almost TOO ideal. They're wonderful people and we had a fabulous time!

And Vegas...WOW! I hadn't been tp Vegas in ten year and my how it has changed! We stayed mid-strip at the Treasure Island, and spent much of our time around there. The Mirage, the Wynn,Ceasar's Palace and the Fashion Show Mall were close by and it was a short tram ride to the MGM Grand, Luxor and Excalibur.m We did the strip from top to bottom and also took a day trip to the Hoover Dam, and even saw Britney Spears at the Palms.

In fact, we saw a TON of celebs, from Howie Mandel and the Deal or No Deal girls, to Britney, Jorge Garcia from Lost, The folks from the A&E show Inked (their tatoo parlor is in the Palms), Paul Stanley from the band Kiss, Pete Rose, Haylie Duff, Paris and Nicole, and a lot of people that we vaguely recognized but couldn't put a name to.

The buffets were all they were promised to be and more. We especially liked the Bellagio breakfast buffet and the Wynn dinner buffet. After all we ate, I was stunned to see that I'd actually LOST a pound there, but then again we did a LOT of walking!

We didn't get to many shows, but I'm really hoping to see one of the Cirque Du Soleil ones whenever we go back.

We did Thanksgiving in Northern VA. at a really great buffet and the kids dragged us out to after Thanksgiving sales. 3.99 DVds are SO in my budget :)

Since Dave and Erin are working in England through early 2008, we're not going to go to Australia until they're back there, but are very likely to go to England next year sometime.

All in all, the trip couldn't have been more ideal from start to finish and I have to give thanks to my wonderful family for that :)
